Bat Survey - Gorseinon, Swansea
Background
In August of last year, we carried out a preliminary roost assessment (PRA) bat survey and an activity survey of these commercial warehouses that were to be demolished. This required demolition permission with Swansea Council.
What do bats look for in their roosts?
Bats don’t typically prefer to roost in metal warehouses as they do not provide stable environments for their roosts, and they struggle to grip onto metal surfaces with their claws. However, bats have been found roosting in similar structures, and there were several features we identified that could be used by bats.
What did we find?
We didn’t find any bats in these warehouses, but we did get to test out some thermal cameras - Guide TK612s that soon became a staple in all our future bat surveys!
