Bat Survey - Langland, Swansea
Background
This lovely property nestled adjacent to the beauty that is the Gower landscape is being renovated to be a family's forever home. Extensions are going to be built, and the loft space is to be converted into an additional building, with skylights installed into the existing roof.
Scoping Survey
From the outside, this property seemed very well sealed, with no obvious access points that we could see. When we inspected the inside, we were able to see small gaps at the corners of the loft space where daylight could be seen, indicating that there are gaps into the loft space that bats can use.
The roof was also lined with bitumen felt - a favourite and safe roof lining for bats - that had various small gaps and tears that bats could use to enter and roost between roof slates and bitumen felt.

Emergence Survey
The surrounding habitat included small parcels of woodland and roads that lead toward the Gower, both of which provide good commuting and foraging potential for bats. An emergence survey within the core bat active season (May-August) will be needed to confirm or disprove the presence of roosting bats at this property.
We are looking forward to seeing if there are any bats tucked away in this roof!
