Bat Survey - Pencoed, Ruthin
Background
In March of last year, we got to carry out a bat survey on this amazing chapel. After being disused for many years, the chapel had a lot of potential for bat use, with many crevices they could roost in while being left undisturbed by human presence.
What We Found
Our initial scoping survey initially found no evidence of bats. However, when we conducted emergence surveys, we discovered common pipistrelles, soprano pipistrelles, and brown long-eared bats were using the property! This shows why scoping surveys aren’t enough on their own to give you a full picture of what’s going on - activity surveys are often needed in conjunction.
